Over the past couple of years, guys in their 20s and early 30s have been embracing the necktie as a style statement. Even with tie sales among older age groups uniformly down, sales to men 18 to 34 were up more than 13%.
The necktie’s resurgence among the “cool” crowd was sparked by designers like Thom Browne and Hedi Slimane, who made it a part of their collections. In keeping with the trend, sportswear lines like Theory and Club Monaco are now offering ties.
It’s too early to tell if the necktie will come back as a mandatory presence, but if you’re one that has to be part of the “in-crowd” when it comes to men’s fashion you’d best be off picking out ties to add to your wardrobe.
